tonight I and my wife sat down together in our living room and saw the movie called "新しい靴を買わなくちゃ".

as my wife likes to see a domestic movie and I like Miho Nakayama, we chose this at Tsutaya last night, while I chose "Syriana", which she doesn't like… although we didn't expect too much about this movie, since we just wanted to spend fun time, this movie was quite good… it was while we were seeing the names shown before the movie began that there were names like Shunji Iwai, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Etsuko Kitagawa… Then we finally recognized that this movie was produced by such a gorgeous members of the Japanese entertainment industry, which will easily let us anticipate a fascinating movie…

The story is not so complex, but the scenes in Paris looked so nice and the words spoken by the people featured in the movie seemed sensitive and delicate… the plot is like this. Sen and Suzume, a brother and a younger sister went to Paris with different reasoning. Sen was just accompanied by Suzume, since Suzume feels a kind of magic that if Sen is beside her, she can make it everything she wants based on the past experiences, though this time wasn't the same. Sen incidentally met with Aoi, who has stayed in Paris for a long time since she began to work at the art gallery to sell the newly introduced artists in Paris. Her marriage with the French guy in her younger age wasn't happy one, in addition to the past that she lost her son when he was 5 years old due to his weaker health condition. After she got divorced, she didn't let her heart known by any other men, according to her friend, Jonna.

Sen didn't expect that he was gradually attracted by Aoi as they spoke things related Paris and their lives. Aoi also got attracted by Sen a little by little. I thought that Sen could make himself break into her heart and Aoi could find him that she could let her heart being opened with less fear. In short, it looked that she trusted Sen.

The night before Sen leaved Paris, Sen and Aoi drunk together till late night. After talking about Sen's job and his dream to have his individual exhibition someday, they went to bed. When Aoi found that Sen was on the floor with him embraced by the thick blanket, Sen asked Aoi to talk more about her, though she was afraid that Sen might not be able to face her past story. But Sen was calm and ready since Joanna told him unexpectedly that she lost her son in the past which has deeply hurt her heart… Sen accepted everything Aoi told to him, and held her very tightly in the blanket…

The next day, Sen got along with Aoi to follow her work, and after that, they went to the place that Aoi really likes. They went to a kind of harbor to take a boat cutting through the river, letting the visitors seeing the beautiful scenery in Paris , including her best place, Eiffel Tower… She said the reason why she likes Eiffel Tower is that she could see it whenever she was in Paris because the buildings in Paris are not so tall then the tower was always in her sight, and the tower won't go anywhere unlike the people. People left somewhere she doesn't know… Aoi told Sen that she doesn't want him to go back to Japan, but unfortunately Sen chose not staying longer in Paris…

Afte Sen left Paris, Aoi received a Fedex. In that parcel, she found the letter from Sen that he will have his individual exhibition, along with the new shoes… The day when they met, Aoi was slipped when her feet stepped upon Sen's passport that he unnoticeably dropped when he was out of a cab. At that time, Aoi's shoe was broken. The new shoes might mean a very special message that Sen wouldn't forget what they talked and felt for those few days…

From the begging to the end, the performance by Miho Nakayama is still wonderful, while the story, screenplay, and chosen places are so stylish… Moreover, the music behind the scene is also good and very fit for each scene…

Actually, why this movie strikingly moved me is that from time to time I remembered the days that I spent with the women, older than me by 11 years when I was 24 years old… The eyes I turned to her was quite similar to Sen's. Even if a huge age gap we had, I thought that humor and atmosphere felt me that she looked pretty. But at the same time, I thought that there was a very tall wall in front of me, and I guess that Sen felt it too…

Mature women have a longer history that young men haven't experienced yet and as time goes by, the life theme is getting heavy… like the case of Aoi, she experienced a divorce and lost her son… Such experience isn't natural when a man is in his 20s… In my case, it was lighter, but it was truly heavy to me when I was just 24 years old… The life between married couple felt much more meaningful and has much higher worth… In those days, I couldn't have enough confidence to surpass such a deep experience…….

I thought the life after the marriage is quite different from that of lovers….
Sometimes it is said that soon it will become boring. But meeting the same person every day and spend much longer time, and having and raising own child have the highest worth in someone's life… It is far deeper experience against a relationship before a marriage. None of the relationship has such a strong meaning….

Maybe someday, I'd like to describe this story in my tune….

 regards, kenji.
